Irish Youth Circus Gathering
Cloughjordan Circus Club are delighted to be the instigator and host of the now annual Irish Youth Circus Gathering. The event brings together young people with a shared interest in circus from Youth Circus Organisations from all over the island of Ireland.
Young people take part from Derry, Galway, Dublin, Belfast, Cork and of course Tipperary in a shared weekend full of circus workshops, learning and fun.
The whole community of Cloughjordan welcomes our guests. As well as a packed circus workshop programme, social events include a BBQ, board games night, and a Saturday night cabaret performance in St Kieran’s Hall.
The event is made possible with workshops and facilitators from Cloughjordan Circus Club and all participating groups including:
Dublin Circus Project; Circusful, Belfast; Galway Community Circus; In Your Space Circus and Cork Circus Factory.
IRISH YOUTH CIRCUS GATHERING 2024
The Irish Youth Circus Gathering takes a different focus in 2024, with a smaller group of highly motivated Young People focussing on preparing, rehearsing, and presenting a high-quality performance show, all over a single weekend.
OUTREACH PROGRAMME
Our Gathering Outreach Programme will run on Tuesday 15th to Thursday 17 October 2024. We ran circus taster workshops with the Transition Year students of Portumna Community College – with a view to doing a longer term project with them in the near future – as well as both primary schools in Cloughjordan, St. Micheal’s and Cloughjordan No. 1.

WEEKEND PROGRAMME OCTOBER 18th – 20th 2024
We will be welcoming young participants as well as youth circus facilitators to Cloughjordan from Circusful (Belfast), In Your Space Circus (Derry), and Galway Community Circus. They will be joined by members of Cloughjordan Circus Club for a fun packed weekend of circus workshops, social events and performances.
What to expect if you are coming to the gathering?
A focussed and driven series of workshops centred around the ultimate goal of producing a professional-level show. All this year’s participants were selected as having an interest in potentially pursuing circus as a career path. Some workshops will be on performance and presentation and will be for everybody. Then we split into our various skills groups to refine the specific element of the show we are working on.
It will be work. It will be tiring. It will be extraordinary amounts of fun!

Saturday Night Social Evening
Our good friends at Riot Rye supply us with freshly made local pizzas, and we are hosted by the ever-obliging Middle Country Cafe. Along with board games and desserts, there are plenty of laughs to be had all evening long!
Public Show on Sunday 20th October at 12:30 PM in St. Kieran’s Hall featuring the amazing participants as they present Café Chaos – all created and rehearsed over this single weekend. And of course an amazing finale… the now traditional ALL IRELAND HUMAN PYRAMID!

PREVIOUS CIRCUS YOUTH GATHERINGS
In 2024 The Gathering came about with great support from Circus Explored, where the participants from Cloughjordan, Galway, Belfast and Derry put together their own show over the weekend and performed it in Public at the end of the event. The recorded elements are included in the overall Circus Explored video for this year.
